Texon celebrates Cradle to Cradle gold through G-Star collaboration
Materials supplier Texon has received gold level Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificate for its jacron paper, as part of a partnership with G-Star Raw.

The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute aims to improve sustainability through its Certified Product Standard and a number of mills have undergone the certifications over recent months, including Rajby (which achieved a platinum for its Beluga fabric), Artistic Milliners, Saitex, Soorty and AFM.

Texon became involved in the Cradle to Cradle community in 2019 at the invitation of G-Star Raw, one of the original adopters of the standard.

Texon worked with the denim brand’s supplier and Eco Intelligent Growth (EIG), a Barcelona-based circular economy consultancy, to ensure that its Texon Vogue Sahara production processes conformed to Cradle to Cradle’s Gold Material Health standards. Texon switched to a chlorine-free bleaching solution that satisfied Cradle to Cradle’s Material Health criteria at gold level.

Texon Vogue, a jacron paper, can withstand stone washing, enzyme washing and dry cleaning. Dimensionally stable, the material does not shrink or stretch, but does wrinkle slightly after washing, delivering a natural vintage look.

Boyd Mulder, sustainability director at Texon, said: “At the start of 2020, we set out our mission to become a zero waste organisation by 2025. As part of this work we’ve set ourselves some firm goals relating to our carbon footprint, our use of virgin materials, our waste streams and our water consumption.

“We are proud to have joined the Cradle to Cradle community and extend our thanks to the teams at G Star Raw and EIG for helping us secure this important certification, which endorses the material health of Texon Vogue Sahara.”
