RE/J: Calik’s new ‘circular’ code

Turkish denim producer Calik recently unveiled RE/J, a new recycled denim fabric made from 100% pre- and post-consumer waste, which will be made available to buyers in time for the autumn-winter 2022 season.

Calik said that it was thrilled to introduce RE/J, which it hopes will “lead a new circular economy era” and reverberate throughout the denim community.

Produced using an open-end spinning method, the company described the vintage-look denim as “authentic”, with a good level of elasticity. This has been achieved through the use of Lycra’s elastane-free EcoMade fibre (created with 68% sustainable resources, including recycled and renewable materials), in addition to Repreve’s rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) polyester, derived from waste plastic bottles.

Application of Calik’s existing “conscious” Dyepro technology (currently available to view on-demand through May 7 at the all-digital Kingpins24), which reportedly ensures that zero water is used - and zero chemical waste is generated - during the indigo-dyeing process, furthers the collection’s mindful credentials. (Dyepro can be used for a range of stretch levels offered by Calik, from rigid to super stretch to power stretch.)

As with previous collections, the manufacturer’s E-Denim, Blue H, Selfsized, Skinlithe “and so on” also feature.
