Levi’s: changes at the top

Denim brand Levi Strauss & Co recently announced that Stephen C. Neal, current chair of its board of directors, will be stepping down from his position on March 26.
Mr Neal will by then have reached the mandatory board retirement age of 72.
Following a unanimous decision by the board, Robert “Bob” A. Eckert will succeed Mr Neal as board chair, effective immediately following the latter’s departure towards the end of the month.
President and CEO of the company, Chip Bergh, commented: “Steve has been instrumental to our successful turnaround over the last decade, including playing a key role in taking the company public.
“He has guided us through countless strategic decisions and supported our commitment to our values every step of the way.”
Mr Eckert has previously been chairman of the board at Mattel, where he was also CEO for over 11 years. Prior to this, he was president and CEO of Kraft Foods.
On his new role, Mr Eckert said: “Levi Strauss & Co is an iconic, global company that I’ve come to know well over my decade of service on the board.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the board and the leadership team in service to our shareholders and other stakeholders, and in support of the company’s long-standing commitment to delivering profits through principles.”
