Levi’s takes a trip to Madchester
Levi’s Vintage Clothing (LVC) has taken inspiration from the acid house and indie music scene and fashion emanating from Manchester, England, in the late 1980s for a collection that includes oversized jumpers and baggy jeans.

LVC design director Paul O’Neil said: “I was a big fan of that music, which is one of the reasons I went to university in Manchester in the 90s.”

During his research, he spoke with the first manager of the band Happy Mondays, Phil Saxe, who told him about selling Levi’s on a market stall, crediting it with starting the local ‘baggy’ scene.

The Loose Fix (inspired by Happy Mondays’ song Loose Fit) collection also includes special-edition T-shirts featuring album covers designed by Manchester-based agency Central Station.

The lookbook was put together in a ‘covid friendly’ way, with models superimposed onto backgrounds representing the city at the time.
