Kingpins sees core innovations at Calik

Istanbul-headquartered denim producer Calik introduced two new technologies during Kingpins24 Flash Australia in late June.

The Turkish manufacturer presented its new yarn technology, E-denim, as well as a new, traceability-oriented QR code system for uncovering each garment’s life-cycle assessment (measured by eight different parameters), composition details and fibre origin, including easy to view certifications.

Describing E-denim as “green to the core”, Calik said that the new technology is made from 100% recycled cotton, recycled polyester and cellulosic Tencel lyocell fibre, created using Refibra (a Lenzing technology which upcycles cotton scraps into lyocell fibre).

According to Calik, 20% of the (traceable) recycled content is located at the core of the yarn, which can be seen easily when untwisted, meaning that imperfections resulting from shorter, recycled fibres have been reduced and a smoother hand-feel has been achieved.

The denim producer added that E-denim allows for twice as much recycled content to be used in highly elastic products when compared to conventional products. It predicted that the technology is set to be an “industry standard” in the “near future”.
