PG’s alternative approach shows denim works in every sector
A collaboration between PG Denim founder Paolo Gnutti, designer Barbara Anna Corradini and students from the Teatro Regio di Parma opera house was unveiled at Denim Première Vision – demonstrating that denim can be relevant to ‘untraditional’ fashion sectors including haute couture.

The two dresses, ‘Between Dream and Reality’, were the result of months of collaboration and hand stitching by the students; the foiled denim was adorned with embellishments, inspired by Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma and wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Mr Gnutti is famous for ‘thinking outside the box’ – his new collections include flocked and tie-dye fabrics that could work as well for streetwear and high fashion as for jeans. “I play with the denim,” he told Inside Denim. “Everything doesn’t have to be blue, white or black.”

The collection included recycled nylon flocked material suitable for down jackets and a Japanese-look heavy denim. “I love Japan, it’s a powerhouse. If you go with an open mind, you can learn a lot,” he explained.

The collection – which he stresses works year-round, not just for certain seasons – also includes updates to his foil designs, available in more than 20 colours.

“You can play with foil - more shine, tarnished, laser cutting,” he said. “The special part is how we combine the foil on the fabric, the glue makes it super soft. You can find other foil on the market, but they are rigid; ours are soft.

“There’s no place my fabrics can’t work – it’s just down to the mind of the stylist to interpret them.”
