AGI’s 30th anniversary collection aims to scale 'eco-friendly fabrics'

Pakistan-based mill and manufacturer AGI Denim has teamed up with consultant and former head of deign at Levi’s Jonathan Cheung for a collection that “embodies the next generation of sustainability technologies” and which celebrates the company’s 30th anniversary.

Tomorrowlab features technologies from partners such as Circ, Infinited Fiber, Renewcell, Lenzing, Good Earth Cotton, regenagri, Huue and Nature Coatings.

Denims fall into three categories: ‘New Cellulosics’ blends regenagri regenerative cotton, GOTS-certified organic Hemp and Tencel fibers; Unwasted blends post-industrial and post-consumer waste cotton, Lenzing Refibra and Creora Regen; and Future Colours encompasses new ways of coloring fabrics using Nature Coatings’ pigment made with pre-consumer industrial wood waste and Huue bio-based indigo.

The garments are washed with recycled water without pumice stones or potassium permanganate in state-of-the-art LEED-certified facilities. The dyeing and finishing uses exclusively recycled water.

Hasan Javed, executive director of AGI Denim, said: “Here, sustainability is not just a buzzword – it is the essence of our journey. Collaborating with Jonathan Cheung has allowed us to combine our decades-long expertise with fresh perspectives, resulting in the Tomorrowlab collection that redefines responsible denim.”

The collection seeks to make responsible products accessible to all by scaling the next generation of eco-friendly fabrics, added the partners. “The collection reflects AGI Denim’s constant push to innovate and to be more environmentally conscious, which overlaps with my interests,” added Mr Cheung.

The collection can be viewed at Kingpins Amsterdam, October 18 and 19.
