Sharabati aims high with Egyptian cotton denim

Denim mill Sharabati aims to “reinvent denim’s role in haute couture” with a new fabric made from Giza 94 Egyptian cotton.

The Dream of Nile collection is made for high fashion, “not just jeans but sportswear, suiting, gala dresses and trenches”, it said.

The cotton is hand-picked from fields that have not been sewn for two years, on farms that operate crop rotation.

The long and extra-long staples means greater strength as the fabric has fewer exposed fibre ends and thinner yarns, meaning fabrics have a higher thread count.

Sharabati claims this makes colours brighter and last longer and provides a sheen and lustre similar to silk.

Grown and spun in the Nike Delta, close to Sharabati’s factory, the short supply chain also cuts down on carbon, transport and waste, making it a “true local product”.

“Our work is to set a new milestone in denim’s glorious history and recast an everyday essential as an exclusive staple,” said the company.
