Artistic Milliners’ latest palette is all BioBlack TX

A new, collaborative capsule from Pakistan-based denim mill Artistic Milliners (AM) and US biochemicals developer Nature Coatings pairs the former’s 100% cotton fabrics with the latter’s 100% bio-based BioBlack TX pigment, made exclusively from Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood waste.
As founding chief executive at Nature Coatings, Jane Palmer, told Inside Denim in the spring, the company’s dispersion, in addition to its BioBlack TX pigment, was also certified carbon negative by Norway’s Accend earlier this year.
Non-toxic, the black coating solution features a blue undertone, an 8/8 lightfastness rating, less than 0.1% volatile organic compounds and “undetectable” levels of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). Nature Coatings secured $2.45 million in seed funding last month.
AM’s director of product and research, Baber Sultan, described how using the product had enabled it “to take a massive leap forward in our sustainability goals”, calling this latest, co-created effort “a testament to our commitment to a greener, cleaner future”.
The line-up includes a denim jacket, skater skirt and pair of jeans.
“Together, we’ve been able to create a truly remarkable collection that showcases the potential of clean chemical solutions in the fashion industry,” Ms Palmer added.
