Italian brands praise denim from Berto
Two Italian fashion brands have spoken about their partnership with denim fabric specialist Berto, and how the proximity in the Veneto region, as well as low minimum order quantities, have enabled them to create sustainable, high-quality collections.

Paola Verzini, co-founder of accessories brand Stripes of-f Road, explained she had been searching for denim that doesn’t fade before being introduced to Berto’s "no fade" denim at a tradeshow.

Returning to Verona, she struck up a partnership with Berto’s Francesca Polato and Maurizio Zampollo, who she describes as passionate partners, and made bag collections using a range of its materials, thanks to the small minimum orders.

She said: “We also learned about the company's longstanding commitment to the environment and sustainability, a truly important path that made us realise we were in the presence of a company that holds at heart the values we embraced from start.”

Designer Rossano Perini worked with several big companies before launching his own brand eight years ago. He said Berto presented an opportunity that few weavers do: to buy fabrics with a low minimum order, fast delivery and excellent quality.

“Today, 97% of my collection is made with Berto fabric,” he said. “They offered an incredible service, trying to understand my needs and proposing the fabrics that could best represent my philosophy. This, for those who start a new path in our sector, is fundamental and I thank Berto for this collaboration.”

His collections include Loose Fit, High Loose 70's style (pictured), Skinny and Cargo and revisiting iconic fits such as Levis 501 for boyfriends, and tracksuits.

Berto also recently collaborated with Turkish garment maker Blue Matters on a collection made with sustainability minded stock fabrics, aimed at new designers and brands, with low minimum orders.

Berto was founded in 1887 in Bovolenta and it is still run by the fourth generation of the Berto family.
