Buaisou indigo collective joins upcycling project

Tokushima, Japan-based natural indigo farm and artisanal collective Buaisou has turned its hand to upcycling discarded clothing from sustainable domestic retailer O0u.

As part of the Save the Blue initiative, set to run from July 1 through August 31, pre-worn or defective O0u articles that cannot be resold may be dropped off at beauty brand Sekkisei’s stores, after which they will be passed to the Buaisou team for reworking.

Later, the final garments will be displayed at concept boutique Maison Kosé Ginza, before they are ultimately put up for auction.

Figures from Japan’s clothing industry, cited by local media, suggest that the nation generates upwards of 500,000 tons of apparel waste every year.
