Kaihara looking further afield with Tencel

Fukuyama denim mill Kaihara has marked the “next chapter” in its partnership with Lenzing-owned, wood-based fibre brand Tencel.

Kaihara Denim has been working with Tencel since its Japanese market debut in 1994.

Beginning with Kaihara x Tencel Denim Week, currently underway in Tokyo, the collaborators have jointly introduced seven new premium fabrics that, according to Lenzing, are “set to propel Kaihara’s time-tested craftsmanship [into] international markets as part of its overseas expansion strategy”. Finished using Jeanologia technology, the capsule will next land at Kingpins' Hong Kong pop-up in November.

“As we broaden our international reach, our long-standing partnership with Lenzing will prove pivotal to advancing our commitment to responsible practices, such as incorporating water-saving Tencel Modal fibre with Indigo Color technology,” shared Kaihara's general manager of sales, Inagaki Hirofumi.

“To tailor [our production] to luxury and high-end [labels] seeking superior quality and kindness to the planet, we have also been crafting denim fabrics with zero or reduced cotton, leveraging Tencel fibres for their sustainability, softness and performance benefits.

“We are confident that our strengthened, multidisciplinary collaboration with Lenzing will distinctively position Kaihara as a world leader in developing boundary-pushing innovations, addressing diverse tastes and needs, whether in Japan or abroad,” Mr Hirofumi continued.
