Hiut’s first shorts signal start of challenge
UK denim brand and jeans manufacturer Hiut has launched its first denim shorts, based on its popular Betty fit.

Made from a 12 oz 100% organic cotton denim from the Candiani Mill, the medium-dark indigo has a red cast to the fabric that gives it a rich depth.

Clare Hieatt, co-founder of the Welsh company, explained the shorts are different: “No Daisy Dukes here. No Pedal pushers or Bermuda shorts. They are all great styles with an incredible history but we wanted to make our own history with this, not follow it.”

Like many of Hiut’s ranges, the Betty shorts are available in a limited run.

She added: “Every year, grandmasters [experienced jeansmakers] Elin and Amanda hold a competition to see who can wear shorts for the longest amount of time in the year. Amanda put hers on at the beginning of last week. So it begins.”
