Polygiene partners with Hiut and Calik

Sweden-headquartered Polygiene has recently collaborated with denim brand Hiut and manufacturer Calik.
Whereas Cardigan, Wales-based Hiut Denim announced that it would be making short runs of its A-B commuter jeans using the Swedish company’s Stays Fresh technologies (Biostatic and Odor Crunch, specifically) in the immediate future, the Turkish denim manufacturer looked further ahead by unveiling its new collection of fabrics for spring-summer 2022, including “several” treated with Polygiene’s ViralOff technology (an antiviral product which the company claims reduces viruses by 99%).
Hiut hopes purchasers of its jeans will join its No Wash Club (the entry bar to which is set at a minimum of six months), with brand co-founder, Clare Hieatt, commenting: “We want to be as low-impact as possible and producing stretch jeans comes with impact.
“To help reduce this and improve the product, we have chosen to work with Polygiene. Their technology helps the customer wear more and wash less. We’re looking at using this technology with other products.”
Polygiene CEO, Ulrika Björk added to Ms Hieatt’s sentiments: “In terms of sustainable use and life cycle analysis, we know that skipped washes will reduce the environmental impact considerably. Plus, it is an excellent example of how to change the way we view jeans and garments - from fast consumables to durables.”
For its part, Calik’s use of ViralOff was a result of “enormous demand” for products with antimicrobial effects, the company said. It chose this technology as it “does not interfere with the natural bacterial flora of the skin”.
