Fatalism becomes ‘first’ Korean label to integrate Turkish denim tech

Seoul-headquartered denim brand Fatalism recently made headlines in its home country after integrating innovative Turkish denim-producing technologies into its manufacturing process for the first time, with a view to repositioning itself as more of a luxury-oriented player in the market.
The label, established in 2014, had noted a “difference in quality” between locally and globally produced denim, it said, and added that its decision effectively rendered it the first South Korean denim brand to have introduced Turkish washing technologies.
It made the move after its designer and production manager visited Turkey this past December to learn unspecified local sewing techniques and washing technologies, according to reports.
Subsequently, Fatalism “acquired” a special manual wash recipe from an unnamed laundry and has incorporated this, alongside fabrics from Isko and “various [new] sewing details”, in its spring-summer 2022 denim production.
To put its new methods into practice, the company had to locate and sign an exclusive agreement with a willing enterprise in the city of Hanam in Gyeonggi province (around 20 kilometres from Seoul), it added. “This is the first time this technique has been applied in Korea and the process requires about three times more people and time than conventional denim,” a brand spokesperson commented.
Fatalism reportedly now intends to overtake its domestic competitors by pursuing “overwhelming” quality and further investment. Its goal, it stated, is “full-scale” brand globalisation.
