AGI Denim launches regenerative cotton project
Pakistan-based mill and manufacturer AGI Denim has teamed up with the Rural Education and Economic Development Society (REEDS) to launch the AGI Denim Regenerative Cotton Farm Project, to promote sustainable agricultural practices directly at farms.

REEDS is a non-profit, non-governmental humanitarian organisation that emerged from a collective commitment to address the socio-economic needs of marginalised populations.

The project aims to foster agricultural techniques that minimise chemical usage, enhance soil health and preserve biodiversity.

AGI Denim's Regenerative Cotton Farm Project, in Ghotki, Sindh, will identify areas where REEDS can support 1,300 cotton farmers in adopting regenerative agriculture principles and practices, leading to improved yield.

The proximity of the cotton source will also help AGI by reducing transportation impact, improving quality control through closer collaboration with farmers, and enable faster turnaround times.

AGI director Hasan Javed said: “We aim to reduce our environmental impact through a more localized supply chain that empowers the communities where we source our materials from. By keeping things closer to home, we are better set to create more opportunities for the people who help make our denim possible.”

AGI Denim is also applying for RegenAgri certification through Control Union, a globally recognized certification body, to ensure the credibility and integrity of its Regenerative Cotton Farm Project.

The project serves as a cornerstone for enhancing traceability within its supply chain. Through this initiative, AGI Denim aims to provide consumers with greater transparency regarding the origins of their products. The denim manufacturer recently partnered Netherlands-based Green Story to make digital product passports accessible to its clients via QR codes.
