AGI’s ambitious expansion plans advance
Pakistan-based mill and manufacturer AGI Denim has embarked on the next phase of its ambitious growth plans, with its new LEED certified Apparel Park commencing operations and an expansion of its renewable energy initiative.

AGI director Hasan Javed told Inside Denim the Apparel Park is one of the only net zero facilities in the country, and 40% of its energy will come from renewable resources. It will have a capacity of around 3.2 million units per month.

Added to a new laundry, which is due to open next year, its garment capacity will grow by about 20%.

AGI Denim is aiming for an end-to-end LEED-certified value chain with a LEED spinning mill, a LEED denim mill, a LEED Platinum garment unit, and the new Apparel Park.

The company is increasing its use of renewable energy, adding solar panels and recycling about 60% of its water.

Reduction of freshwater usage is also a focus. “Everyone is concentrating on recycling, but if you can reduce your freshwater consumption, by reducing your overall water requirements, that is a number we should be looking at,” added Mr Javed.

The company has reduced its freshwater usage by 75% from a 2018 baseline, which has allowed it to be part of Kontoor’s Indigood programme. It is working towards reaching a gold certification, which would mean a 90% reduction from the baseline.

AGI has also signed a partnership with farmers in Pakistan to grow regenerative cotton. “If all goes well, by Q4 of this year, we will have a Regenagri-certified cotton from Pakistan,” Mr Javed added.
